Accessibility statement

Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. These guidelines explain how to make websites easier to use for people with disabilities, and better for everyone. Accessibility is something we build in as we go, not a box we tick at the end.

We designed NetCompetitions to be used with a keyboard, with a screen reader, at high zoom, and with motion reduced, not just with a mouse on a large screen.

What we've done

• Text and controls are checked to meet WCAG's colour-contrast levels.
• Every page can be operated with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and a “skip to content” link.
• Forms have proper labels, and errors and confirmations are announced to screen readers.
• Pop-up dialogs trap focus, close with the Esc key, and return focus where you left off.
• Moving content, such as the featured carousel, can be paused, and automatically stops if your device is set to reduce motion.
• Countdowns and live updates are announced sensibly rather than reading out every second.
• Pages use clear headings and landmarks so you can navigate by structure.

How well we're doing

NetCompetitions is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA: this means we meet most of the standard, and we're actively working on the parts we don't yet fully meet. We know about the following limitations:

• Our live prize-draw animations are being redesigned. The winning result is always available as text, but the animation itself is not yet fully described to screen readers or paired with a non-animated view.
• In some horizontally-scrolling carousels, cards that are currently off-screen can still be reached with the keyboard before they scroll into view.

This statement is based on our own review and testing. We're carrying out further testing with assistive technologies and will update this page as we resolve issues.
